DHT (Dihydrotestosterone) is the hormone that stimulates oil glands to secrete oil. Patients that suffer from acne are more sensitive to the effects of DHT. This is why the Acne Center of Lansing offers DIM Ultra, a combination of DIM and Saw Palmetto. Diindolylmethane (DIM) comes from cruciferous vegetables (ie brussel sprouts, kale) and has been shown to block DHT receptors on oil glands. Saw Palmetto (extract from the berries of the saw palmetto palm tree) has been shown to decrease the production of DHT.
